As most of you are aware, the prices for prescription
allergy and asthma medications have steadily increased over the last few
years. We have been able to offset this financial burden for many patients,
especially those who do not have insurance coverage for their medications,
by giving them free samples. Unfortunately, due to changes in most pharmaceutical
companies’ policies, in part brought on by the downturn in the economy
and the availability of Claritin over the counter, we have experienced a dramatic
decrease in the quantities of samples being provided to us for distribution to
our patients.
We continue to encourage the pharmaceutical companies to leave us as many samples
as they can and have been assured by them that our office is getting much more
than most other medical practices. We know how convenient it is to be able to
start a new medication in our office at the time of your visit with
Dr. Engler or one of our nurse practitioners, rather than have to trudge over
to the pharmacy that same day when you don’t feel well and are pressed
for time. We also want to make sure that the new medications we recommend are
the right ones for you before you go out and spend your money on a product which
may not work or may have an unpleasant side effect. Since using lung inhalers
and nasal sprays can be a little tricky, especially with the vast array of new
devices now available, we want to be able to show you how to use these products
correctly and make sure they do the job they are designed to do. Dr. Engler stresses
to the pharmaceutical representatives that it is very important for patients
to be able to try new medications on a trial basis and that is the primary reason
these companies have been so willing to leave us samples of their products in
the past. » read

New
Office Policy:
We are all aware of the fact that this has been a very difficult time of the
year for people with allergies. We continue to make every effort to accommodate
our patients scheduling needs to ensure we can provide requested services to
all our established and new patients. There are however, circumstances when our
schedule is completely impacted and we cannot accommodate all the requests for
patient office visits. That is why it is so important to notify our office within
24-hours to cancel a scheduled appointment. It allows us enough advance notice
to contact patients who have requested those specific times to come in for an
office visit. We know how busy everyone’s schedule is with work and family
commitments. Consequently, to ensure the feasibility of accommodating all patient
requests for office visits, we must now require a 24 hour cancellation notice
if you are unable to keep your appointment. There will be a $50.00 fee if you
do not cancel your appointment within 24 hours in advance to allow us to give
your time slot to another patient. We appreciate your consideration regarding
this new policy.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Terry O’Brien, Practice
Administrator.
In our continuing effort to make scheduling as convenient as possible, we continue
to be open on Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings till seven p.m..
We are
open on Saturday mornings for allergy
shots and office visits with the Nurse
